Individuals with special needs or disabilities: They are children or persons suffering from total or partial, congenital or non-congenital, permanent disability in one of their senses, or in their physical, sensory, psychological, or mental abilities, that limit or prevent their ability to meet the demands of their lives independently, similar to their peers.

  Target groups:
Individuals:
those who were able to submit work, a project, an innovation or a program distinguished in the rehabilitation or assistance of children with special needs, or supporting them through care, and improving their lifestyles. They should have the ability to persistently deal with that category. Such individuals can be classified as follows: (special education teachers, specialist teachers, specialist psychologists, social specialists, speech specialists, specialists in functional treatment, a physiotherapists, optics specialists, and hearing specialists).

The Center: A place dedicated for the care and provision of special education services for the disabled.


Community-based organizations: Local, public or private institutions, which provide support to people with special needs in the fields of education, through providing them with welfare programs, and improving their life scientific methods (A local Award).

A) Conditions for nomination in the category of workers in the special needs field:
• The candidate should have spent (3) years or more in one of the educational posts established in the Award system, and must be in his post at the time of applying to the Award.
• He should have achieved a special and distinct achievement in his work as compared to his peers at the state level.
• He should have obtained an Excellent degree, "90-100" in the technical report for the last two years of teaching.
• He should be committed to professional ethics.

B) Conditions for nomination in the category of centers and institutions working in special needs field:
• The center or institution should be licensed by official authorities; the license should be valid at the time of applying to the Award.
• Has been established for at the least 3 years.
• Has contributions in special needs field that have benefited the local community.
• Has not won another award in the same field.
• Has not applied to a similar award, inside or outside the state, in the same year of applying to Khalifa Award for Education.

A) Criteria for the differentiation and excellence for the category of "educators and technicians working in the field of special needs":
• Planning.
• Professional performance.
• Assessment tools and methods.
• Caring for students.
• Professional development and transfer of knowledge.
• Communicating with parents and local community.
• Outcomes and achievements.

B) Criteria for the differentiation and excellence for the category of centers and institutions working in the field of "special needs":

• Planning.
• Management organization.
• Assessment tools and methods.
• Management of Human and financial Resources.
• Caring of different categories of students.
• Students' academic achievement.
• Improving students' behavior.
• Teaching methods.
• Teaching and learning environment.
• Activities and competitions.
• Interaction with parents.
• Mutual cooperation between the Centre and the community.

Value of the Award:
• A financial Award of AED 200,000.
• The shield of Khalifa Award for Education.
• A Certificate of Excellence for the field of "Special Needs".
